Revenge of the Travel Brochures from the Darkside Part 3: Castle Dracula

Front

It's unfortunate that this retro brochure for Castle Dracula in Niagara Falls, Ontario doesn't use any actual photographs of the attraction. If you Google "Castle Dracula Niagara Falls" use can see it's actually fairly impressive looking (at least from the outside).

UPDATE: I've just discovered that the artwork for this brochure was lifted from a 1973 issue of the House of Mystery. Check out this post over at The Haunted Closet. Looks like you're busted Castle Dracula people.

Front

Back

After you enjoy your day at Walt Disney World, head to Downtown Orlando to have the culottes scared off you at the Anthony Perkins endorsed Terror on Church Street.

Wait a minute, this just in... Terror on Church Street is no longer in operation. Sorry about that folks.

Well please enjoy the graphically cool Terror on Church Street brochure.

The company that produced Terror on Church Street is based in Spain, and still operates haunted attractions in various countries.  Check out their site if you dare.

Unique Haunted Attraction Ad #1: Wonka's Fear Factory

From the 2001 Fear Finder...

To the best of my knowledge this particular attraction ran only one season, but I'm sure that damn boat ride was terrifying.

Retro Haunted House Newspaper Article

Check out this page from the October 24-25 1973 edition of the Northville Record. It's about the local Jaycee Haunted House which are now a thing of the past around here.

Here's a close-up of the "giant spook" they placed outside of the haunted house...

OK Michigan peeps, here's a nice close up of beloved horror host Sir Graves Ghastly who made an appearance at the haunted house.

Sadly, here's the YouTube video of Sir Graves obit on Fox 2 ...

One last Halloween-ish video for all Michigan folks, a Highland Appliance commercial for the Electronic Thing...

Travel Brochures from the Darkside

I have a ridiculously large collection of travel brochures. I started collecting them as a kid on family vacations, and it's been a habit that has carried through to adulthood.

Here are two vintage brochures for haunted attractions near and on Mackinac Island.

First is the Haunted Fort. (To read brochure text, click photos to enlarge)

Now the Haunted Theatre...

It's interesting the that both of these attractions were advertised as a "entertainment experience" or even "educational" - not scary or terrifying.

Sadly the Haunted Fort is no longer with us, but the Haunted Theatre is still around! Check out their website, and their very, very reasonable prices. It you do check their website you'll find they're still using the pictures from their 20+ year old brochure. And weirder still, pictures from the Haunted Fort brochure are on the site too! So it looks like the figures from the Fort found a home in the Theatre.

Finally through the amazing power of YouTube I found a short little video of the Haunted Theatre. If this doesn't get you to book a trip to Mackinaw Island I don't know what will.
